Flashback Friday

I have all of these blog posts running through my head, but I have had way too many other things to do lately that I forget to blog.  Even now, my house is a disaster and I need a shower and I need to quickly solve these problems before Ashton wakes up from his nap, or they won’t get done.

For your December enjoyment, my flashbacks this month will be Christmas photos.  Since I was at my parents’ house last week, I was able to score around 500 more pictures to share, so be prepared for some good ones.

I'm guessing this was Christmas of 1983, when I was almost 5

Excuse the blurriness, but my aunt just posted this on her facebook page so I thought it would be perfect for today.  It’s me and my cousin, Brooke.  I’ve never seen this picture before.

FYI, we are sitting on the floor between the kitchen and the living room.  Yes, that’s carpet.  And the wallpaper?  Just lovely.

I know it’s almost not even Friday anymore and I also know that Halloween was last week, but my mom just sent me this picture not five minutes ago.  I was just about to post something else and it popped up.  This one is just classic.

My mom made these two jack-o-lantern costumes.  You can see that we’re all bundled up underneath (we lived in Canada so it was cold on Halloween).  Sure, they were great costumes for a parent, but I hated them.  I guess they were probably fine the first couple of years, but I don’t remember ever wearing a different costume until I was 8.  The beauty of the jack-o-lantern costumes was that we didn’t grow out of them after only one year.  Then, since I started in the smaller one, once I grew out of that one, I could then wear the bigger one for another 2 or 3 years.  Sure, my mom loved them.  Me, not so much.

Somehow, my mom couldn’t find the Halloween pictures I wanted.  I really wanted one of Jana dressed in the same costume London is wearing this year.  I’m sure we’ll find it, but I don’t have it today.  So you get one of Kenton as Alfalfa and Jana as a witch.

Right now my Aunt Julie and her family are staying at our house, visiting from Utah.  In honor of her, I’m posting this picture of the two of us back in the day.  This was our house in Alberta.  I love how dated this picture is.  Look at the lovely wallpaper.  We had the same exact stuff elsewhere in the house, but the colors were switched around (the flowers were brown and the background was off-white).  And if you look closely, you can see a diver in the fish tank!  I still think my dress was cute, though.

When I was six, I had a pretty gnarly crash on my bike.  My brother and I would ride along beside my mom when she went jogging.  We lived in a small town and the roads were not paved.  We started down a hill.  Alan and I told my mom we would meet her at the bottom.  I never made it that far.  I lost control and hit the gravel, tearing my chin open on a rock.  I still remember how badly it hurt.  My mom took my shirt off to catch the blood and applied pressure to my chin, which was bleeding all over the place.  I was mad that she was pushing because it hurt so bad.  Luckily a family friend was driving by in his truck, threw our bikes in the back, and took us to the hospital.  My dad showed up a few minutes later with a new shirt for me (since I was so embarrassed I wasn’t wearing one.  By the time he got there, I had been all stitched up.  Still, it took me a few days, maybe even a week before I could really open my mouth again.  I drank mostly through a straw for those days because my jaw hurt so badly.  This picture was taken while I had my stitches in from that accident.  If you’ve ever noticed the jagged scar on my chin, this is how it got there.

This is my Grandma Whitaker and me.  I love this one because I sometimes see Ashton making that same face.

Now that it’s Autumn time, I thought I would share a picture of my two sisters at my grandparents house, playing in the leaves.
