It’s no secret that I hate potty training. In fact, I would say that it is one of the two absolute worst things about parenting young children. I really, really hate it. I know people whose kids just do it on their own. I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if that were the case around here, but as it stands, I hate it. I made a promise that I would never potty train Ashton. He would have to figure it out on his own because I really don’t want to go through that hell again. And now here I am with an almost-3-year-old who is ready to be potty trained (I think). A few days ago I noticed that his diaper was dry when I was getting him ready for bed. I told him that maybe he should just sit on the potty and go pee so it wouldn’t be in his diaper. He did! And then he did it again the next day, and the next! For the past few days, he has peed in the potty every day. But I’m still very aware of the fact that he cannot be pushed. Two nights ago I asked him to sit on the potty and go pee and this was his response, “No pee. No poop,” over and over again. I asked him if he wanted any of the rewards he has been promised and his response again was, “No lollypop, no movies, no Lightning McQueen computer, no sit on the potty. No pee. No poop.” All right, kid. Have it your way. But today he wanted to wear his new Nemo underwear. He wore it most of the day and just as I was finishing up my dinner and he was standing beside me, he tells me he’s peeing in his underwear. Of course. And when Taylor took it off, it was discovered that it was more than just pee. Lovely. Have I mentioned that I hate potty training?

I don’t know if it’s just me or if people these days really are more rude than they used to be. I surely have had enough run-ins with my fair share of rude people. Just this morning on my run, I met another. But this time it wasn’t my outstanding parenting skills that solicited rude remarks. I was running in the street. I always run in the street since I like my knees. My running buddies and I heard a vehicle coming so the three of us running moved over. I was on the outside so I was still in the street. I was quite close to a parked car, like within a foot or less. I wasn’t out in the middle of the street. A motorcycle drove by. A MOTORCYCLE! There was plenty of room! But of course he had to yell, “GET OUT OF THE ROAD!” Really?

Taylor and I went out last night. Our dinner destination was Thai Time. Pure entertainment, I tell you. The restaurant is small, but nice. It had great reviews on Ness, so we thought we would give it a try. It was a popular place. When I say the place is small, I mean that there are 3 tables lining each side wall, and 2 tables down the middle. Each table seats 4. Because of all the couples wanting to eat, they were pushing tables apart, but there wasn’t room for everybody and it took a bit of maneuvering to fit as many people in as they could. We were lucky enough to not have to wait for a table. The couple who came in about 5 minutes later (who we will call couple number 1) was not so fortunate. They were told that it would be about a 5-10 minute wait so they said they would be back and asked if a table would be saved for them. They were told that it would, and left. A few minutes later (maybe 6) a couple was finished and left, just as a new couple walked in and were handed the recently vacated table. Couple number one return to find that their table has been given away. Once again, they leave. Another table is vacated and a new couple walks in the door and is seated at couple number one’s table. Not 2 minutes later, couple number one returns again. At this point, I see the workers quickly bussing another table to accommodate, while couple number one patiently waits. As I watch the restaurant workers, I hear them speaking in Thai. I’m pretty sure their conversation went something like this, “Oh crap! They’re back again! I thought they left for good. Hurry up and bus this table!” Now I don’t “talk Thai” but I don’t know what else they would have been saying! At this point I am laughing out loud. The whole situation was just comical. All the while, there was an older (maybe 60s) couple sitting behind us. The woman asked her server to take a picture for them. I had a really hard time not turning around to look at them, but Taylor was watching, while I laughed. The man started asking the server tons of questions about his food and what everything was called. Then he started taking pictures of his food! Finally his wife asked him if he was going to eat. I think she was already finished. Maybe all of these things were normal, but the restaurants I usually go to are not so intimate. In this situation, it was impossible to not know what was going on with everybody else in the place. Quite the scene. We had a good time and I would definitely go back, especially if I get that kind of entertainment!

I made the felt garland and Bree sent me the adorable paper garland. I love it!
I woke up this morning to the sound of Ashton singing. In his own room. It was 7:00. He never sleeps in that long. Then, when he walked out of his room, he headed to London’s room, but before he got there, he found her in the bathroom. When she was finished, they both crawled into bed with Taylor and I and we all snuggled for a half hour. On top of that, Ashton didn’t wake up during the night at all. I can’t even explain how miraculous this morning was! I think that sets a precedence for the rest of the day. I think it’s going to be a good one . . . as soon as I get out of my jammies and get moving. But maybe that’s why it’s so good. And I get to go out on a hot date tonight. You better believe I’ll be donning my Valentine’s wrist corsage that Bree sent me!
