Giving

I have never given blood in my life.  I am 31 years old and I am starting to feel a bit selfish.  You see, my brother-in-law, Denver, always gives blood.  Whenever he gets the chance, he’s there.  Even if that means fainting every time.  And I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even have a really cool blood type.  It’s probably something wimpy like A- or A+.  But here I sit, a universal type O blood donor, and never give.  I think it’s time for me to think of others.  So many people die because they need blood.  I can help them.  Why don’t I?  This morning our stake (church organization) had a blood drive.  I thought about going.  In fact, I almost planned on going.  Then I forgot until it was too late.  And, once again, I didn’t give.  Selfish?  Probably.  Chicken?  Definitely.  But I’ve given birth.  Twice.  I’m pretty sure I can spare some of my blood.  Next time.

I’ll believe it when I see it. :)

The good parts are you get free cookies and orange juice, and on the short term you loose weight. How much does a pint of blood weigh?

I have never done it either, because I’m a also a chicken! I always feel very guilty when it’s brought up too, because I know there are people that need it. Maybe next time there’s a blood drive the two of us can go and face our fears and do it together! (then again, maybe not!)

I had to give blood for myself twice. I gave two weeks before and a week before my back surgery and they gave it back to me during the surgery. I haven’t done it again since. It’s not all that bad, but I end up feeling exhausted and basically sick for a day afterward (mostly because of my low weight and I’m always dehydrated) I don’t blame you… although maybe you should try it once :)

Just do it! :) It’s not that bad. I’ve done it many times, and yes, you get free food. If you go when there is a blood drive you usually get a shirt or something cool which is great! I don’t give blood anymore becuase I donate plasma. But the needle for donating blood is SO much smaller, so you can do it! :) One pint of blood saves 3 lives.
P.S. A- blood type is not wimpy!
