No More Dairy
Posted on Sunday, June 7th, 2009 at 7:56 pmThat’s right. No more dairy for me. Ashton (who’s 2 months old today) can’t tolerate it. At least I think that’s the problem. I decided to go off of it a few days ago to see if he would be happier. A happier baby is a happier mommy. There had been a lot of screaming in our household, especially at meal time. He didn’t want to eat and would scream because he was starving, but also scream because he was gassy. For the most part, he has been much better. Today wasn’t so good. Maybe that butter on my toast was just a little too much for him. Anyway, no dairy is a really hard thing for me. I have cereal every morning for breakfast. I have cheese on just about everything. I also have ice cream very frequently. In fact, right now I’m going through ice cream withdrawals. The good news is, maybe I’ll lose some of this excess baggage on my belly. No cheese and no ice cream? This is tough. It will be all worth it (I think) if it keeps this adorable little guy healthy and happy.
Have you tried baby’s bliss, gripe water, colic ease, or anything like that? Addy was the same way and I went thourhg EVERYTHING in my diet to stop it. Nothing worked. So in between her bouts with thrush (if he has this this can make him not want to nurse—does he have white in his mouth?). I had to turn to that homeopathic stuff in order to ease her belly otherwise I was dying!!! Let me know if that helps!
No ice cream? Oh, I feel ya! Jason went through a time where he wasn’t supposed to have dairy when he was younger. My mom bought him ice cream sandwiches at Trader Joe’s called Tofuti Cuties….they were made from soy milk. They tasted JUST like ice cream sandwiches minus the dairy! I hope he feels better soon! BTW, I need his foot measurement (inches) so that I can bring him some baby shoes when we come out to the wedding! I am going to make some for William too
Join the club. Laurie is lactose intolerant. Nursing never really affected her as far as I know.
A few substitutes might work. I think Soy milk tastes okay if you really need milk. Laurie gets the silk Vanilla. She can also handle Frozen Yogurt, you might try that for your ice cream cravings. Unfortunately, there is now cheese substitute that I know of.
Good luck.
