Advent

When I was growing up, when the first of December rolled around, we broke out the advent calendar.  It was made by my aunt many years ago and had a big tree on it with decorations that you put on one day at a time.  My mom always put a treat in each pocket so when it was our day we got a little treat too.  It was a fun tradition in our family.  When I married Taylor, I noticed that his family also has an advent calendar that’s almost identical to the one my family has.  Now that I have my own little family, I wanted one of my own.  I decided to be crafty and make one.  I found a pattern that I bought from a lady on e-bay and got to work.  It seems like every time I get these crazy ideas to do something crafty, I’m in over my head.  I like the idea of doing it and I always get excited to see the finished product, but when it’s all in the works, it’s not so exciting to me.  I’ll have to say that I’m very happy with the way my advent calendar turned out.  I didn’t know I had that much craftiness in me.  Of course it’s not perfect and I can’t say I want to make another one, but it was a good experience and it’s dang cute.  It’s a little different from the ones our parents have, but the idea is the same and we’re decorating the Christmas tree, which London is excited about.  Each day has a specific gift and a scripture to go along with it.  What a fun tradition!
